Depending on how you use the service, we may collect:
- account details such as name, email address, password hash, role, and account status;

3. How we collect data
We collect personal data when you:
- visit the website;
- create an account or sign in;
- verify your email address or reset your password;
- complete lessons, typing sessions, practice activities, or games;
- purchase, renew, cancel, or manage a subscription;
- contact us, respond to emails, or request support;
- take part in a parent or guardian approval flow.
We may also receive limited information from service providers such as payment processors, hosting providers, analytics providers, and email delivery services.
4. Why we use your data and our lawful bases
We use personal data only where we have a valid legal basis under UK data protection law.
To provide and operate the service — including account creation, sign-in, lessons, progress tracking, subscriptions, and customer support. Lawful basis: contract, or steps taken at your request before entering into a contract.
To secure the platform — including fraud prevention, abuse prevention, troubleshooting, access control, and incident response. Lawful basis: legitimate interests, and sometimes legal obligation.
To manage billing and accounting — including subscription administration, payment processing, invoicing, tax and financial records. Lawful basis: contract and legal obligation.
To communicate with you — including service emails, security notices, account notices, billing notices, and support replies. Lawful basis: contract, legitimate interests, or legal obligation depending on the message.
To improve the service — including product analytics, performance monitoring, feature improvement, and debugging. Lawful basis: legitimate interests, and consent where required for non-essential cookies or similar technologies.
To send marketing — including product news or offers. Lawful basis: consent or legitimate interests where permitted by law. You can opt out of marketing at any time.
To manage child and parent approval flows — including verifying age-related information and contacting a parent or guardian where needed. Lawful basis: legitimate interests, contract, consent where applicable, and legal compliance where relevant.
5. Children and parent or guardian approval
Qtype Pro is designed to be used by learners, including younger users.
If we ask whether a user is under 13, we do that to decide whether a parent or guardian approval process is required. If approval is required, we may collect the parent or guardian’s email address, send approval messages, and limit the account until the process is completed.
We ask users and parents or guardians to provide accurate information. If you believe a child has provided personal data without the required permission, contact us at hello@qtype.pro.
6. Who we share personal data with
We share personal data only where it is necessary for the service or required by law. This may include:
- payment processors such as Stripe;
- hosting, infrastructure, database, and security providers;
- email delivery providers used for verification, password reset, and service emails;
- analytics providers where enabled;
- professional advisers such as accountants, lawyers, or insurers where reasonably necessary;
- authorities, regulators, or law enforcement where required by law or to protect rights and safety.
We do not sell your personal data.
7. International transfers
Some service providers may process data outside the United Kingdom. Where that happens, we aim to use lawful transfer mechanisms and reasonable safeguards appropriate to the destination and the type of data involved.
8. Data retention
We keep personal data only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this policy, including legal, accounting, security, fraud-prevention, and record-keeping needs.
In practice, this may mean:
- active account data is kept while your account remains open;
- billing and tax records may be kept for up to 6 years after the end of the relevant tax or accounting period, or longer where law requires;
- security logs may be kept for a shorter period where they are no longer needed;
- backup copies may remain in secure backups for a limited additional period before being overwritten;
- where you request deletion, we may retain limited information where necessary for legal, security, fraud-prevention, or legitimate record-keeping reasons.

- ask us to correct inaccurate or incomplete data;
- ask us to delete your data;
- ask us to restrict how we use your data;
- object to certain processing based on legitimate interests;
